Gluten-Free Pizza Crust: A Healthy Option

In fact, becoming gluten free has become a big deal in today’s food economy. Almost every restaurant will specify if a dish is gluten free or how it can be made gluten free. And social media sites are raving with hashtags of gluten free and pictures of food. Most foods brands in grocery stores will advertise if they are gluten free and many types of food that natural contain gluten will have gluten free versions of themselves available for purchase. One such food item, is gluten-free pizza crust.

While eating gluten-free foods such as gluten-free pizza crusts is trendy, many people don’t have a choice but to eat gluten free do to gluten allergies or gluten sensitivity. Gluten intolerance can be the result of a wheat allergy, celiac disease, or a non-celiac gluten sensitivity from a third party cause. A gluten free diet can also be a choice. Whatever the reason, it means gluten is going to have a hard time moving through the digestive track without a lot of pain and discomfort. Gluten is a protein found in wheat, rye, and barley which makes it a rampant ingredient in pastas, cereals, bread, and any products related to those items. It also reaches into other foods you wouldn’t immediately think of like beer (which contains barley) and soups (which contain wheat).

Gluten-Free Pizza Crusts and Gluten-Intolerance

Those who have a known gluten intolerance know the symptoms as well as the discomfort connected with this condition. They also know the further lifestyle changes that are forced on them by not getting to eat foods they once enjoyed and the strain it causes when social situations are dictated by what food you can eat. So what’s the solution then? It often means picking gluten free options and many are a lot closer than you think. When you think pizza, it seems impossible to remove the gluten from the cooking process. After all, much of the pizza make process relies on the rising of years and the fluffiness of the dough and chemical reactions that require wheat to work properly. But if you’re willing to sacrifice an overly fluffy (and often overly filling) crust then you can still enjoy one of your favorite foods. Gluten free often means thin crust pizza (think of it as New York Pizza instead of Chicago style). Because the dough does not stretch during the creation process like traditional wheat dough, it must be “spread” instead of “stretched” across the cooking surface.

So, whether you're looking for thick or thin crust, find a good supplier for gluten-free pizza crusts.

Gluten-Free Food and Dangerous Gluten Sensitivity

Buying gluten-free foods makes sense in the event you or someone you love has been diagnosed with gluten sensitivity, a food allergy pertaining to gluten, or a more severe health problem related to gluten such as Celiac disease. And you want to be cautious with Celiac disease or any potentially dangerous food allergy or sensitivity.
There is no cure for Celiac disease, and doctors don't know exactly what causes it, but there does seem to be a genetic component. So if someone in your family has gluten sensitivity, you probably will have it as well. If you don't know, make sure that you see a doctor. You don't want to go into anaphylactic shock and wake up in the emergency room with a doctor giving you the bad news. And that's if you are lucky
In some cases, the level of anaphylaxsis can be fatal. It makes sense if you think about it. Look at beestings. If you're sensitive, just one sting may be enough to kill you. The same holds true for gluten. So what do you do if you've been diagnosed with Celiac disease or some other form of gluten-senstivity? Do you live in fear the rest of your life of a bowl of pasta or a slice of bread? Not at all.

Gluten-Free Foods:  One Strategy to Manage Gluten Sensitivity

Living in fear is no way to live.  Like any food allergy or sensitivity, you just need to know how to manage it.  If you go to a potluck where there will not be a lot of gluten-free foods, what do you do? Eat beforehand and hurt or offend your host or hostess?  Not at all.  In fact, dealing with foods that aren't gluten free is simple, you bring some of your own.  You either bring a dish to share, or you bring your own food.  And no, not everything that you make that is a gluten-free food has to have a gummy texture or vile taste.  In fact there are dozens of gluten-free recipes like this one for gluten-free chicken parmesan.   You could even make a pizza with gluten-free pizza crusts.
Living a gluten-free lifestyle is a healthy choice for people with gluten-senstivity.  So buy some foods that will help you to stay safe, like gluten-free pizza crusts.

Other Forms of Gluten-Free Foods

Fresh produce is a great example of a gluten-free food.
Fresh fruits, vegetables and their frozen counterparts are naturally gluten free. However, be careful when purchasing processed fruits and vegetables. Read the label carefully to avoid purchasing foods that have gluten. If you are in doubt it is much better to leave the product completely.
Grains.
Grains such as wheat have been known to have an ample supply of gluten. Safer options would include rice, cassava, soy, corn, amaranth and beans. Be very cautious so as to avoid grains that have been cross contaminated, which means at some point in their harvesting or manufacturing process they did come into contact with foods that contain gluten. Buy only the tested grains, the ones which clearly state that they are gluten free.
Meat and poultry.
They are perfectly safe for a person who is looking for gluten-free foods.
Dairy products.
Milk does not have gluten, but always read the label on processed dairy products to avoid compromising on your diet.
Beverages.
Beverages such as sodas and juices do not have gluten. However drinks like beer, ale or malt are made from grains that do contain gluten therefore they need to be avoided. The market is however flooded with beer brands which are gluten free, both in the United States and outside.
Soups and sauces.
Most of them have wheat as a thickener. Wheat has already been established as a key supplier of gluten, thus needs to be avoided. When buying soups and sauces, opt for those that use cream instead of wheat.
Fish and seafood.
Another food option for a gluten free diet. As long as they are fresh, you can be sure that they have not been contaminated with other foods that may contain gluten.
Medicine.
Be very careful with medicine and supplements. Carefully check the label or ask your care provider whether the medicine is gluten free.
Gluten-free foods are numerous. However a person may find it hard to stick to this diet because they feel like they are missing out on the foods they used to eat before. Here are a few tips to help you stick to your healthy gluten free option.

Gluten-free pizza crusts are one form of gluten-free food that should be considered.  For some people, going on a gluten-free diet is necessary and for others it is simply a lifestyle choice that allows them to attain better health.   Whether you have Celiac disease or wheat allergies or you just feel that you will be healthier if you are eating a gluten-free diet, you are still most likely going to want to eat pizza. After all, pizza is a popular dish, it’s easy, and it’s a delicious food we often eat in connection with a social context. But why would you buy gluten-free pizza crusts? Let’s take a look.

Why You Should Buy Gluten-Free Pizza Crusts

If you haven’t been diagnosed with Celiac disease or any other sensitivity or allergy to wheat, then you might wonder why on earth you would ever stop eating it. Let’s start with what Celiac disease is. Celiac disease is an autoimmune disorder that causes the gluten, a protein found in wheat and a number of other grains, is not tolerated by the body. When gluten is ingested, the immune system responds by causing damage to the villi (small, hair-like projections) covering the inner surface of the small intestine. This leaves the person unable to absorb a sufficient amount of nutrients from their food, which causes malnutrition. “I don’t have Celiac disease,” you say. While this may be the case, experts estimate that while only 1% of the American population has Celiac diseases, as much as 10% of the population may suffer from what has been termed non-celiac gluten intolerance (NCGI) or from gluten sensitivity. Aside from that, many people who switch to a gluten-free diet feel a sense of renewed energy, have fewer gastrointestinal problems, and lose weight. All of these benefits have started to persuade people that making a switch to a gluten-free lifestyle is a viable option.

Gluten-Free Foods and Their Popularity

It is therefore important to say that, gluten-free foods have gained popularity among a wide range of incomes and lifestyles. Why? It is because it has proven to be one possible way of healthy living. Is a gluten-free lifestyle necessary?  In some cases, yes, it is.  Particularly on the advice of a physician or health practitioner, and obviously in cases of gluten-sensitivity.  So remember that if you have to gluten-free, make sure you find a provider of gluten-free foods that is 100% certified gluten-free.
